The Bashir Adeniyi Center for International Trade and Investment is the outcome of a strategic partnership between the NIIA and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), whose significant support provided the impetus to drive the center. This partnership highlights the shared vision of promoting Nigeria as a key player in international trade and global economic activity by leveraging policy, research, consultancy and capacity building to drive economic growth.
The Nigerian Customs Service, as one of the key stakeholders in Nigeria’s economic and trade sector, plays a vital role in facilitating smooth trade operations, customs regulations, and safeguarding the economic interests of the nation. The sponsorship of this new center by the Comptroller General underscores the commitment of both institutions to elevate Nigeria’s status in the global arena by enhancing policy frameworks and promoting efficient trade practices.

The Bashir Adeniyi Center for International Trade and Investment is a hub of knowledge and expertise in trade, investment, and economic cooperation. With a focus on creating a conducive environment for trade facilitation, the center engages in research, policy advisory, capacity building, and provision of consultancy services. This is a significant step toward boosting Nigeria’s international competitiveness and strengthening its economic partnerships in the global markets. Specifically, the center aims to:
- Provide research and policy advisory services on international trade and investment.
- Facilitate training programs for senior Nigerian Customs Service Officials as well as private and public sector stakeholders on navigating international trade systems.
- Provide Consultancy services to help government, businesses and investors access services related to international trade and investment.
- Create a platform for dialogue between government agencies, financial institutions, private businesses, and international partners on trade facilitation, investment, and economic development.
- Develop frameworks to encourage foreign direct investment and support Nigerian businesses seeking international market access.
