NIIA Lecture Highlights Need for Global AI Regulation

The Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) has brought attention to the growing need for effective global regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during its Foreign Policy Lecture Series in Lagos. The lecture, delivered by Femi Ojumu, examined the theme “Artificial Intelligence, Global Schisms and Limitations of the Rule of Law.” It explored concerns surrounding AI governance, digital sovereignty and the ability of existing legal frameworks to respond to rapidly evolving technologies. Discussions highlighted the importance of international cooperation, stronger regulatory frameworks and greater investment in research and development. For Nigeria, these issues are particularly important as the country seeks to strengthen its digital capabilities and participate meaningfully in shaping global technology policy. The lecture reinforces the importance of connecting technological innovation with responsible governance, national interests and international cooperation.
