  1. Tunisia and EU finalize deal on migration (Northwest Africa & South/Latin America)

The European Union and Tunisia have signed a memorandum of understanding for a “strategic and comprehensive partnership” aimed at combating irregular migration and boosting economic ties between the bloc and the North African state. This suggests that the issue of migration from Tunisia to Europe is likely to continue to be a major challenge in the coming years.

  • Russia pulls out of Ukraine grain deal (International Economic Crisis)

Russia has suspended its participation in a crucial deal that allowed the export of Ukrainian grain, once again raising fears over global food supplies and scuppering a rare diplomatic breakthrough to emerge from Moscow’s war in Ukraine. The impact of the war on global food markets was immediate and extremely painful, especially because Ukraine is a major supplier of grain to the World Food Programme (WFP).

With Kenya on the verge of tabling anti-LGBT legislation in parliament, advocacy groups in the US have called for a halt to trade talks between the two countries.

The Nigerian airforce has killed scores of Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters around the Lake Chad region. On July 15, 2023, the Nigeria airforce, through a series of air strikes, destroyed hideouts of the terrorist group and dropped bombs in Arina Chiki, a known terrorist shelter in southern Tumbuns of Borno.
