More teaching hospitals risk shutdown over exodus of medical professionals
More teaching hospitals might shut down due to shortage of nurses and doctors on account of their massive relocation abroad, president of Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Dele Abdullahi, has indicated. The fear follows reports that the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, has shut five wards, with 150 beds capacity over the development.

Ethiopia: at least 23 deaths from cholera, according to Save the Children
At least 23 people have died of cholera in two weeks in eastern Ethiopia, which has been hit by heavy flooding, the NGO Save the Children said on Thursday, fearing that the epidemic could get “out of control” in the region. Cholera is an acute diarrheal infection caused by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with the bacterium vibrio cholera.
