Yesterday 27th October 2022, NIIA played host to Prof. Al-Hassan Conteh, Ambassador of Liberia to Nigeria, Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS. His Excellency shared his views on Nigeria-Liberia relations and how the relationships can be further strengthened. He posited that Liberia relations with Nigeria could be traced to the mid nineteenth century when Dr Edward Blyden served as Liberia’s Plenipotentiary in the British protectorates of Nigeria. He also further explained that Nigeria-Liberia relations are deeply rooted in Liberia’s geo-strategic background and the recent, similar development plans that drive their foreign policies the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development for Liberia (PAPD) and the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP). Liberia is the oldest independent African Republic and a representative democracy as decided by a convention in 1840 and adopted in 1847.
