Thursday 15th December 2022, The Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos (NIIA) hosted its Sports Diplomacy Conference tagged Sports, Culture and Diplomacy, as tools in a new world Order at the NIIA ultra modern Hi-Tech Conference Chamber.
This edition of the conference marks the 3rd conversation series in 2022. Policy discussions and deliberations were centered on the FIFA world Cup in 2034 and Africa’s place in it with the Director-General NIIA Prof. Eghosa Osaghae providing the background to the road in 2034 and the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat emphasizing the significance and role of Lagos State as the unofficial capital of West Africa.
Also, we had presentations from the Hon. Federal Minister of Works and Housing of Nigeria, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola who shared the Federal Government strategy for infrastructural development as imperatives for integration in West Africa and the Head of NIIA’s Sports Diplomacy Desk, Nigerian football legend, the Mathematical, Olusegun Odegbami who shared the FESTAC of Sports and the Road to 2034.
